Mental State: Pensive

“Pensive”-expressing or revealing thoughtfulness.
Our thoughts can be our best friends and our worst enemies. As much as you can raise yourself, you can equally tear yourself down.

Most of the time we find our minds headed in a direction we never expected to go. Our minds in their beauty and complexity, have the power to draw us in and cause us to dwell.

Growing up, I wanted to ensure that everything I did, put my mind to, and put my name on was perfect. As time went on, I had to come to terms with the fact that things happen and they don’t always go the way I want them to…however, that didn’t always stop me from thinking and overthinking.

I began to realize that although I spent so much of my time in thought, or replaying instances in my mind, I had nothing to show for all the mental strain.
I had to face the hard truth that as intense as our thoughts can be…they won’t change the events occurring around us…our actions will, and I had to do everything in my power to ensure that I got to be the best version of myself for myself.

To grow, I had to channel these thoughts and use them as motivation, whenever I asked myself “Why?” or “What?”, I had to be sure to ask myself “How?”

How do I move on? How do I ensure I do not repeat certain mistakes? I learned to set up my thoughts for solutions rather than catastrophizing because it did me no good and time spent worrying is time spent standing still.

Remember your thoughts are powerful, and it is important to harness them as much as you can for your benefit as opposed to them working against you.
