“Meh”, is an expression of indifference or boredom that is
referred to as the verbal equivalent of a shrug of the shoulders, one our muse exhibits impeccably.
This state of mind is one many of us are familiar with in one way or
another, we often find ourselves in this space we cannot fully describe.
Backed into a corner, often following extreme frustration there comes a wave
of nonchalance and a strong compulsion to give up and brood over the source of
our frustration. This phenomenon can be quite debilitating despite the autonomy
one may feel from choosing to no longer pursue or give energy to a cause that
does not seem to be worth the trouble.
Oftentimes in our frustration, we so easily lose sight of the fact that we
are more than a moment, a result, or a failure. Dwelling on this feeling of
defeat can drain us of our drive or our ability to push through.
What happens when this wave occurs is crucial because it dictates our actions.
Our minds have the power to shift our perspective and perspective is necessary
in a space like this.
It is through perspective that we gain the awareness to step beyond the present
and continue to persevere or gain the insight to move differently. Without it…we
can so easily find ourselves trapped in our indifference neither thinking nor
doing, simply marking time or worse descending into a gradual slump.
We may feel some semblance of control when throwing our hands up and taking
a step back, however, once that is done, do you stay in the in-between dwelling
on the dead-end, or pick yourself back up and find another route?
It’s alright to feel “meh” sometimes, we all need to heave that sigh now and
then, acknowledge these moments but be careful not to get lost in them.
Catch you later!
